Joanna Jones

London and the countryside have provided the constant change of backdrops to Joanna Jones’ life and career, both as theatre director and writer. Born in 1958,  a stone’s throw from Lord’s cricket ground and Regent’s Park London zoo, she recalls childhood memories of hearing the lions and tigers growling quietly in their compounds through the night.

With youth and a London University degree in drama thus dividing her time  between the metropolis and rural Wales and Hampshire, Joanna decamped from the Uk entirely for five years in her twenties and went to live in Italy. She then returned to live in Oxford where she had a son, Jack, and taught drama. She enjoyed a decade-long tenure as Head of Drama at the renowned Arts school, Bedales and has taken various plays to the Edinburgh festival. ‘Burnt Dress’ is her second book of poetry. She has also written a screenplay ‘ The Long Gallery’. She is married and currently lives by the South Downs in Hampshire.
